What We Do:
B.E.S.T. helps secure opportunity gap funding so that best-in-class Speech and Debate opportunities are available to all students, regardless of income, race or background.
Why We Do It:
Speech and Debate is a unique opportunity that visibly inspires, empowers and transforms young people’s ability to think about meaningful topics, communicate with peers and adults, persist toward goals, and ultimately believe in themselves. These are all breakthrough educational and social-emotional skills that are accelerators for being successful in school, college admissions, college completion, job interviews and a lifetime of relationships.
These are the transformative experiences that can break the cycle of poverty. However, the students most likely to live in poverty are actually the least likely to have access to this expensive programming.
By closing this opportunity gap, we can, and will, change the trajectory of young people’s lives!
Fundraising Goals:
Expand access to 2000 racially and socio-economically diverse students per year across the U.S.
Host Best-In—Class California State Tournaments.
Secure National Championships for historically Underrepresented Students.
